Today was a good one. Perhaps it was even a great one!
Why?
Because today was the first day since I sprained my MCL in mid-December that I was able to do my full hour long elliptical workout! I think that injuries can be a wonderful thing for human beings because they remind us of how grateful we should be for good health and a functioning body! About two weeks after my injury, I began really noticing people making full use of their fully functioning legs. For example, if I saw someone running on TV, I would remember back to when I was able to run for 5 miles outside in the sun. When one is on crutches, it is easy to get frustrated at every little thing you do that requires mobility. A few weeks ago I decided that I was going to make my leg work to full capacity again, and it seems that I have done so, for the most part. I still have to concentrate to get my left heel to hit the ground before my toe, but that will come in time.
Another thing that teaches us to appreciate an aspect of life: snow and cold. Winter has been going on far too long here in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but having so many cloudy, cold days helps me to really appreciate the sunny days. I will CERTAINLY appreciate Spring when it arrives (with the added bonus of my birthday!)!
What crappy things have you experienced that help you to appreciate their non-crappy counterparts?
